Our Story

I recorded these piano meditations in anticipation of our daughter River’s birth.

Our lives were so complicated and stressful when we received the amazing news we were pregnant. We did everything to ensure that our baby had the best chance for physical and mental health.

Coming from a spiritual background, we naturally knew that River's potential as a human being would be greatly effected by the environment that her developing body, mind and spirit experienced in the womb.

Our goal was to create the most healthy, calming, consistent environment sheltered from the stressful effects of life situations. So, I produced this one of a kind unrehearsed recording from my heart to River and her mother.

We played Welcome River almost non-stop during pregnancy, labor, birthing, sleeping and through River's toddler years to soothe, calm and welcome her to the world.

Playing the recording near our bed at night time or during naps through pregnancy was vital in bonding with our unborn River. I would talk to her through her mother's tummy and tell her that Daddy recorded these sounds of love especially for her.

These songs filled the room during delivery to give her a sense of peace and familiarity from the same loving music she experienced in the womb.

We continue to play the music for resting, napping, and putting her down to sleep. The music almost always calms her. When she started to communicate she would immediately say "Daddy's music" upon hearing the peaceful sounds of piano from the Welcome River CD.

I really felt connected to her and that she was experiencing exactly what we desired to create for her. Everyone will tell you that despite the incredible amount of stress that we shared during pregnancy and River's formidable years, she has turned out to be quite the remarkably calm and confident little girl.

I am now convinced that our actions have been successful. We now have the most amazing child. She is even tempered, loving, cooperative, and continues to excel in academics ahead of her age group. She reads, does arithmetic, and enjoys independent study. She loves music and is very creative, calm and productive when we play music throughout the day.

Although this recording was never intended to be released to the public, my community encouraged me that it was a need. I did some research and found compelling scientific evidence that shows that stress during pregnancy adversely affects the developing child in many crucial ways.

As you experience the collection of songs, you will notice that the pace naturally takes you into a relaxed state. It ebbs and flows like a river and the natural rhythms of life.

The recordings were so effective in creating a peaceful, birthing atmosphere and incremental in nurturing the spiritual development of River’s life that I have decided to make them available to you and your family.

Give yourself and your baby the gift of calming music that will enrich your lives and reap rewards for years to come.

Take control of what your baby will become

More and more pregnant women are taking control of and ensuring the health and mental development of their babies. One of the most successful and proven ways is to play music to their unborn babies. There is evidence that playing prenatal music during pregnancy, has many immediate and long term benefits both for the unborn baby and the mother.

Some of the benefits of playing calming music during pregnancy are:

* Relaxation and confidence in your baby after birth
* Enable strong bonding for mother and child through music
* Intellectual development for your baby
* Enhanced emotional development
* Improved fetal sensory development

At the beginning of your second month of pregnancy, you can see your baby's eyes, nose and ears through ultrasound. By the fifth month, your baby's ears have fully developed and can process sounds. He/she will be able to recognize you and other familiar voices, sounds, and music. If you play music regularly you can instill a sense of confidence and relaxation after they're born especially by playing the same music. This is an excellent way to bond with your child.

Stress can negatively effect your pregnancy

Tests show that stress in pregnancy can negatively effect the health of the baby.

Dr. Wanjiku Musindi, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist for the Ohio State University Medical Center , says that stress can have a serious impact on pregnancy. "Stress during pregnancy, both acute and chronic, has been associated with increased risk for preterm birth and low birth weight," Dr. Musindi says. "Chronic stress is thought to contribute to the racial disparities in infant birth weight, infant mortality and preterm delivery. Furthermore, the presence of other medical conditions, such as hypertension during pregnancy, may increase the magnitude of the stress effect on the pregnancy."

I know you and your family will benefit richly from the peace and tranquility of these piano meditations for years to come just as my family has.

Make A Difference In Your Baby's Development

Studies show that the healing power of music can drastically improve your unborn childs life experience and developing disposition. Think about it. You are connected to your baby. You are essentially one. This new developing life gets all of its nutrition from you. What you eat is what your baby eats. What you feel, your baby will feel. If you feel calm, happy and relaxed, your baby will feel calm, happy and relaxed. Your baby is learning and developing vibrational patterns from the environment you create for him/her. So, if you are stressed, you can be sure that your baby is feeling this vibration as well. However, playing calming music for them in the womb can have a positive influence.

Your Body Naturally Resonates to Music

Have you ever thought about how every single piece of music is vibration? That’s what sound is.

Have you also thought about how your own body resonates with music? It re-sounds. There is a vibration that happens in us that is our own very aliveness responding to music.

There are studies that prove that music affects us at a cellular level and even increases our immune system.

Just listen to some good music and notice how your vibration, your energy, is different.

Even at this moment while I write this web page, River has been sitting at independent study table all by herself for over an hour and painting while she listens to some very peaceful chanting monks.

Each piece reflects a part of a river’s journey

The music performed on Welcome River has lots of space between the notes and is very slow and hypnotic. The tempos of each piece average around 60 beats per minute which has been proven to be the most effective in relaxation because it is the optimum resting heart rate.

As you experience Welcome River and other carefully chosen music your breathing and heart rate will relax in time to the music.
